Alixandria Vengoechea

ARTIST STATEMENT

At a time where technological advancements are happening at a speed much faster than we can naturally process, Alixandria Vengoechea has created an innovative combination of materiality that blurs the boundaries between the physical realm, the digital realm, and the psychological realm. She explores themes motivated by mass-communication such as consumerism, human connection and isolation, political ideologies, and globalization.

Through her studies receiving her Bachelor’s of Architecture from Arizona State University, she became interested in patterns of human behavior, the relationship between civilization and the environment, and the influence of our social structures on our frame of thinking. Alixandria’s work is architecturally inspired, utilizing architectural methods of production and iconography to create implicative art work while using naturally provocative subject matter. She pushes boundaries of perception and temporality evoking feelings of disorientation and chaos with the hope that her work will ripple in magnitude through those who experience it with her. Alixandria ultimately highlights the potential agency in the power of media and the risks of conforming to the norms of a structurally oppressed society. Motivated by her own surroundings, Alixandria contextualizes these themes as she’s observed them through her experience living in the United States.
