Who we are

I’m Alixandria Vengoechea, a mixed media artist interested in patterns of human behavior and the web of continuously evolving human consciousness. My work focuses on aspects of civilization over time such as global events, human migration, growing disparity, and cultural norms. I create depictions of grids and nets informed by mass communication, historical documents, media, and an evolving collection of data compiled through observations of human behavior across time.

My practice is intended to be a documentation and critique of the overall state of humanity, an analysis of the relationship between humans and our surroundings, especially within the United States.

I look to the past, present, and future to study relationships between people and our surroundings, including the built environment, the natural environment, and human relationships as they exist between each other. I organize this information into works of art.

Watching Phoenix grow as a city through the lens of a first generation American born to two Colombian immigrants has seeded a personal interest in the disparity that exists around the world. I hope, throughout my career as an artist, to bring awareness to social issues that are prominent elements of American society such as homelessness, addiction, and inequality.
